About Our Area
Howick, Pakuranga, Bucklands Beach, Botany, Dannemora and Flat Bush are suburbs in Manukau City on the eastern seaboard of New Zealand's largest city, Auckland. The population of this area is approximately 75,000, with over 35,000 households. Manukau City in total is the third largest city in New Zealand.
The Howick, Pakuranga and Bucklands Beach areas are sited and developed along one of the most beautiful pieces of coastline in the inner Hauraki Gulf. With beaches including Bucklands and Eastern Beach, Mellons Bay, Howick Beach, Cockle Bay and Shelly Beach, this area has long had an attraction for Aucklanders wishing to escape from the bustle of the city.
Eastern Beaches
Despite the majority of the population being of European descent, there is increasing ethnic diversity with approximately 17% originating from Asian countries, a feature of recent proactive business immigration policies.
The southern part of Howick has recently experienced extreme building activity which has increased the population of the area dramatically. In general, this new development has catered for relatively expensive housing, and this is reflected in the high proportion of the population that are in professional, managerial and clerical occupations, and are earning some of the highest incomes in Manukau City.
Botany Town Centre is New Zealand's newest and largest retail development with approximately 150 specialty stores, a New World supermarket, Auckland's largest Farmers store and New Zealand largest movie screen at Berkeley Cinema.
Situated approximately 15km southeast of Auckland, the Town Centre is designed to be the heart of the community, a synthesis of contemporary town planning, landscape and retail design.
The fast growing Flat Bush area of South Auckland is currently under the focus of the Education Department with the announcement to construct seven new schools within the next decade.
The number of residents in Flat Bush is set to explode over the next 15 years. The population is predicted to go from 3000 people to an estimated 40,000 by 2021.
The education minister’s office stated that Flat Bush was set to become the country's largest new town over the next decade.
